ASHTANGA YOGA
The Original Method

200/300 Hour Traditional Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training

with Guy Donahaye and Amit Manber

Yoga adjustment by a teacher

Our training is an in depth immersion in traditional Ashtanga Yoga as it was taught by Pattabhi Jois in the intimacy of his small yoga shala in Mysore, before Ashtanga Yoga became a worldwide phenomenon.

As Ashtanga Yoga became more and more popular and yoga teaching had to adapt to the mass market, it was inevitable that important details were lost and the original teaching became diluted. Our aim is to return to the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga as it was taught back in the day.

200 hr Teacher Training

November 14-March 27

In this 200 hour Teacher Training we break down the Ashtanga system, deepen practice and expand it beyond asana to include pranayama and meditation. We delve deep into yoga philosophy and theory, focusing mainly on the Yoga Sutra. In depth knowledge of yoga is the foundation for teaching. In this section, trainees are guided in the principles of teaching practice verbally - ie in the “Led” style of teaching.

300hrs - Mysore Style Teacher Training

November 14-June 13

This program builds (extra 100hrs) on top of the 200 hrs training and provides a more in depth approach to traditional Ashtanga. In the Mysore style of teaching, trainees learn to give hands-on adjustments and how to help students develop an individualized practice. This training requires a deeper commitment to practice and trainees complete at least 50 hrs of Mysore practice, more philosophy, pranayama and meditation and an in depth training in hands-on adjustments.

Mysore practice can be completed over the whole period in our dedicated classes, at a home shala or in a Mysore intensive (one will be held during the first 2 weeks of June).

Adjustments training takes place over 3 weekends Fri/Sat May 29/30, June 5/6 & 12/13

Learning to Adjust the Postures

The traditional way of learning Ashtanga is with hands-on adjustments. We will explore this methodology during our training as a way to understand how different bodies have different needs. The training will conclude with two three day in-depth adjustments training weekends.

Developing a Pranayama and Meditation Practice

Asana practice has become very popular today as a form of exercise, but the original purpose of asana was to create a stable comfortable posture for pranayama and meditation practice. The point of asana is to prepare you for the next steps on the path.

Putting it All Together

Integrating yoga into a lifestyle is called sadhana. Yoga supports our health and wellbeing, but is also more effective if we adjust our lifestyles. We will discuss yoga in relation to health, age, injury and the spiritual life. Another feature of sadhana is ritual - when practice becomes ritualistic, it gains depth and power.

Mysore Practice

Without practice there is no growth, evolution or benefit. In addition to the Tuesday workshop session, we will offer three further practice days for students. Students are also welcome to practice at home or at their home shala.

Yuval Yeffet

"Amit is a unique person who makes yoga accessible in the best way possible for everyone.

From the moment I started practicing yoga under his guidance, I felt a big change in my life.

The pleasant voice, the endless patience, the professional guidance, the vast knowledge in the world of yoga and the way he conveys it to practitioners, the personal adjustment to each person, the cosmic optimism and the constant smile.

All of these make Amit a first-class yoga instructor.

Through his eyes and guidance, I fell in love with yoga and Ashtanga in particular and I highly recommend anyone who is interested in starting or continuing to practice yoga and hasn't completely found their way in it, to come to Amit's yoga practices."
